Running

I used to run A LOT. There was a time when I could run 10 miles. I went running today and it was so hard. I ran or rather crawled around campus for about 30 minutes panting like as if I was running a marathon but I'm sure I was running so slow that those old ladies in the neighborhood could have easily passed by me on their daily jogs. Anyways my sister called me at the end of my run and she said I sounded like someone was chasing me. LOLZZZZZZ! I need to get back in shape. It's time to get back on top of my running game. Unfortunately, pretty much no one that I know likes to run. Running is torturous for many people something that coaches use as a form of punishment in sports like basketball, football, lacrosse, etc; "You missed that lay-up....go take a lap!" and thus running became a hated thing. I am so out of shape that I actually didn't enjoy one second of that run. InshaAllah tomorrow will be different, maybe it would have been easier with a running buddy. One day I will find that person who truly loves to run iA. :)

Mint Chocolate Ice Cream, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, Lollipops...I'll Stop in Case You're Getting Hungry

I'm not talking about food. I'm talking about hijab pins. Yes, I make hijab pins listed in the title above and more! And they look too cute to eat besides the fact that they are inedible. I made them last weekend, but had immense trouble trying to get good pictures of them for some reason. But look below for the photos.

Possibly Asked Questions

1. Are they for sale or just for show?

--They are definitely for sale. I have a shop on Etsy called Two Creative Hands. Etsy is a site for all handmade goods. All you have to do is setup an account on Etsy link to register with Etsy. It's free, easy, and safe.

2. Can You Make Me a Custom Hijab Pin?

-- Yes I can!!! InshaAllah. Just let me know what you are looking for.

3. Where Can I Contact you at?

-- twocreativehands AT gmail DOT com

4. Why Did You Write Your E-Mail Address that way?

-- Because I don't want to get spammed, though gmail does do a good job with controlling spam. If you type your email address that way on the web it is difficult for those spam bots to detect it and then spam the heck out of you with haraam or just plain weird things.

Shady

The following is an interview with Bob (to protect the identity of this Muslim sister we will refer to her as Bob):

Bob:Assalamu alaikum

Me: Wa alaikum assalam. Thank you for taking out time to do this interview. I really appreciate it.

Bob: No problem.

Me: So tell me how it all started. Your tension with trees...your borderline hatred towards them.

Bob: Well where I come from there are no trees. There were only shrubs, cacti, and the sun. When I moved to Maryland someone told me that there were trees here and that they were shady. I instantly became suspicious. Shadiness is the friend of fitna.

Me: I am a little confused here Bob. Someone gave you information and you just took it and never asked "why"? Trees are harmless. Did you ever think to ask why trees are shady?

Bob: Of course not. Where I'm from you only need to be warned once. You don't ask questions. Besides I was taught that anything that is different from you is best to be considered makhrooh. I knew that there had to be something wrong about trees because I didn't have them where I was from. So they had to be treated with suspicion. I had hard evidence also that really cemented the feeling in me that trees were indeed shady. Once I saw kids running around a tree. The tree is not the Ka'ba. You can only circumambulate the Ka'ba. That was very offensive. Also on another occasion I saw a young man and woman carving something in the trunk of a tree. I read Ayatul Kursi and then approached the tree to investigate. A heart was carved in the tree trunk and it said Lucy and John forever. I know they weren't married.

Me: I know that you had very strong feelings about trees.

Bob: Yes, at one time I decided that the world would be better off without them. I declared jihad against all trees. Some logging company contacted me telling me that they would support myself and any other Muslims that wanted to take up this jihad. They wanted us to do jihad at their tree farm. I realized later that they were trying to use me and get work done for free as it is their business to chop down trees.

Me: What stopped you from carrying out this jihad of yours.

Bob: Mostly lack of support. But I decided to give trees a chance. I started to realize that trees are a creation of Allah. There must be some wisdom in them even if they are shady. I decided to look up the definition of shady as this was a foreign word to me. The first time I heard it used was when a sister hugged some random dude. She was referred to as shady. From unknown sources it was later confirmed that this random dude was her brother, her mahrem to be more correct. I know some people will try to get away with gender relations violations saying that they are brother and sister, while they knowingly left out the part that they are brothers and sisters in Islam only...I digress. That is another story altogether. So I picked up my Merriam-Webster Dictionary which I so cherish because they partially named it after Prophet Isa's mother radiallahu anhum. Muslims should endorse this dictionary for da'wah purposes. So I flipped to the word shady. To my surprise I found three different definitions. One definition, of questionable merit, I was familiar with. But the other two, producing or affording shade and shelter from the sun's rays, I had never heard before. Instantly, like microwaved cup noodles, I felt cheap and lowly for jumping to conclusions without knowledge. I didn't know how to make up for the dishonor that I might have brought on them so I bought a bonsai tree, which I take care of daily. I also volunteer as a national park tour guide. I educate people about the true nature of trees. I must speak well of them to make for all of the possible dishonor that I brought upon them due to my suspicions.

Me: What have you learned from all of this?

Bob: Just because something is foreign or different doesn't mean it is wrong. You should investigate a situation fully before you accept or reject something. Suspicions can be very destructive when they are based nothing, but mere thoughts or opinions. You need evidence. Approach new situations with an open mind. This is not a call do commit haram acts, but rather it is a call to think and ponder. Alhamdulilah for trees. We could use some of their shadiness from where I am from.

Me: Thank you again for speaking with us.

Bob: It has been my pleasure.

*This interview was completely made up. It's just a light-hearted reminder to not have negative suspicions of one another based on nothing, but mere feelings and/or ignorance.

A Gem from the Qur'an

Today was the last class for the ARA201 Bayyinah class with Br. Nouman Khan. I got excited about Arabic when I took my first university Arabic course. But this is course made my desire to learn Arabic--SOAR!!!!! Br. Nouman explained the concepts in class with simple language so that everyone could understand. At the beginning of our first class he told us that the first thing you need in order to study Arabic is motivation, and the first thing you lose when studying Arabic is motivation. haha. So in every class he gave us "gems" from the Qur'an. These "gems" were AMAZING. Your iman (faith) gets boosted every time he gives you a "gem". Br. Nouman would basically analyze the Qur'an looking at the style and content of the Qur'an. Let me give an example.

look at surah 74 ayah 3 (which I have provided below for your convenience)

وَ رَبَّكَ فَكبِّرْ

There are 21 different ways that و can be used. In this case و acts like 'and'. It separates one thought from another. So put the و aside and let's look at the rest of the ayah. If we separate the letters in the ayah we will get:

ر ب ب ك ف ك ب ب ر

Note: There are four ب in total because each ب has a ّ ( ّ=shadda) on it making each ب double.

Do you know what that string of letters is? It's a palindrome. A palindrome is a word, line, verse, number, sentence, etc that when read is the same forwards and backwards. The verse means, 'And magnify your Lord (Allah))'. This is AMAZING!!!! While Allah is saying to glorify Him he couples it with this style of a palindrome. Allah never compromises style or content in any ayah. The fact that Allah combined perfect style and perfect content is a reason from endless reasons to glorify him and in that verse Allah is telling you to glorify Him. SubhanAllah!!!!!! That is amazing. In surah 17 ayah 88 Allah challenges the jinn and mankind to produce something like the quran, " Say: If the whole of mankind and jinns were to gather together to produce the like of this Qur'an they could not produce the like of it, even if they backed up each other with help and support". Sure we could make a palindrome. So bravo! You made a palindrome mom, bob, etc; I even googled palindromes and there are several. Some of them are even sentences. Bravo! But where is the content? It is lacking. They are silly sentences or phrases with no content. They are not worthy of even being mentioned. Allah already said that the jinn and mankind could gather together to create something like the Qur'an and they have proven this truth of Allah because no one has ever produced something like it. Not even one ayah. SubhanAllah!!!!! Allahu Akbar! Allah is greater than all things and his creation manifests this fact. Magnify Allah and be awestruck because that is all you can do. You will never match what Allah has brought. Allah is greater! Isn't that amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE BAYYINAH!!!!!! It is an amazing program and I am just saying this after one course. You will benefit immensely. I am in my third Arabic class in my university and I have a better understanding of the basics of Arabic now by just taking 9 classes with Bayyinah. When he teaches you understand. It is crystal clear. May Allah increase Br. Nouman in goodness and make him of those who learns Qur'an and teaches it and give success to Bayyinah and their other instructors. Ameen!
